The first female superstar of Bollywood, Sridevi is no more. The actress breathed her last in Dubai, last night. Sridevi suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

Labelled as one of the most versatile actresses of Bollywood, Sridevi mastered all genres of Bollywood. Whether it was playing Nehalata in Sadma (1983) or essaying the role of Anju and Manju in ChaalBaaz (1989), Sridevi is one of the best actresses that Bollywood ever produced.

It’s probably impossible to list down all the melodious numbers Sridevi has added her charm to but here’s a small effort to commemorate the superstar’s brilliant work on the silver screen.

Following are top 10 unforgettable songs of the diva:

Aye Zindagi Gale Lagaa Le (Sadma)

Crooned by Suresh Wadkar, the track from Sadma (1983), strums the right chord. Sadma starring Sridevi and Kamal Haasan was labelled as one of the best works by the duo. Composed by Illayraja and penned by Gulzar, the song was recreated by Amit Tridevi for Dear Zindagi (2016). The song was sung by Alia Bhatt and Arijit Singh.

Kaate Nahi Kaat Te (Mr India)

Who can forget the glimpses of Sridevi dancing to the tunes of Kaate Nahi Kat Te from Mr India (1987) in a chiffon blue saree? Till date no actress could carry the blue saree like Sridevi. Written by Javed Akhtar and composed by Lakshmikant-Pyaleral, the track also featured Anil Kapoor and was crooned by Kishore Kumar, Alisha Chinai.


Hawa Hawai (Mr. India)

Another number which went on to become a cult hit. Sridevi’s expressive eyes, magnetic personality and her dance is something that fans still talk about. In the song, she poses as a dancer but is on the location for investigative purposes. Sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy, the track was recreated for Tumhari Sullu featuring Vidya Balan.


Mere Haathon Mein (Chandni)

Once again Sridevi’s dancing skills came in the forefront with this number. Chandni, which also stars Rishi Kapoor, falls in love with Sridevi when he sees her perform on Mere Haatho Mein. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by Shiv-Hari, the song remains immortal.

Chudiyan Khanak Gayeen (Lamhe)

Lata Mangeshkar vocals and Sridevi’s flawless beauty with perfect expressions right in the middle of the desert is something that one cannot forget. Composed by Shiv-Hari, the film also stars Anil Kapoor in the lead roles. The track was featured in Lamhe (1991).



Kabhi Main Kahoon (Lamhe)

Another song from Lamhe, which till date is one of the most iconic numbers of Sridevi, is Kabhi Main Kahoon. The track beautifully captures the chemistry between Anil Kapoor and Sridevi.


Naino Mein Sapna (Himmatwala)

Himmatwala (1983)which also starred Jitendra, earned Sridevi the reputation of the most bankable actress in Bollywood. Sridevi and Jitendra’s dance moves became the talk of the town. This song is quintessentially 80s in its style and was composed by Bappi Lahri. The song was penned by Indeevar.

Har Kisiko Nahi Milta (Janbaaz)

Sridevi’s performance in a saree against the sea with Firoz Khan is an unforgettable one. Feature in Jabaaz (1986),the song portrays her sensuality to the best. Composed by Kalyanji Anandji and written by Indeevar, the track became an instant hit despite the fact that Sridevi did not have a big role to play in the film. 


Main Teri Dushman (Nagina)

Featured in Nagina (1986), Sridevi essays the role of an ichadhari naagin. Her iconic dance on the tunes of Main Teri Dushman is labelled as the best in Bollywood till date. The song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by Lakshmikant Pyarelal. The lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi.




Navrai Majhi – English Vinglish

The wedding song is low on beats but Sridevi’s performance takes the song to another level altogether. Composed by Amit Trivedi and penned by Swanand Kirkire, the track captures the mood of the wedding and was the last time Sridevi grooved on the big screen.
